IBNI-BEZZAZ MOSQUE
IBNI-BEZZAZ MOSQUEThis mosque is one of the neighbourhood masjids built during the reign of Çelebi Mehmed (1413-1421). Adding a “minber”, or pulpit, to this masjid, it was converted into a mosque. It is assumed that it was built by Hafızeddin Mehmed bin Mehmed Kerderi Efendi in the first half of the 15th century. It is known that Hafızeddin Mehmed bin Mehmed Kerderi Efendi was a scholar that he attended
scientific discussions With Molla Fenari, that he is the author of a book called “Fetava-yı Bezzaziye”, and that he is mentioned with his by-name, Ibn-i Bezzaz. For this reason, this mosque is called “Ibn-i. Bezzaz” mosque, or “Bezzaziye” mosque. This mosque’s main prayer hall, together with its portico tor latecomers, is built with a rectangular ground plan. The entrance of this mosque is accentuated by means of a gable wall, an element frequently seen with the Bursa masjids. The entrance door is accentuated by means of a high quality arch, and with its black and white marble marquetry. There are four tombs in the mosque’s graveyard. This mosque was renovated in 1979, and in 1986.
